Media Center, Terazije 3, Belgrade

On the occasion of closure of the project ˮLocal Ombudsman and Mediationˮ (the Project), Partners for Democratic Change Serbia (Partners Serbia) are organizing a conference in the Belgrade Media Center on Thursday, 10 September 2015, starting at 12:00. The aim of the Conference is to share results of the Project, along with the experiences of the use of mediation within the institution of local Citizens’ Rights Defenders – local Ombudsman. Furthermore, the goal of the conference is to encourage a public debate on the use of alternative methods of dispute resolution as well as to promote the use of mediation in local communities in Serbia.

For the last twelve months, the project ˮLocal Ombudsman and Mediationˮ was implemented by Partners Serbia in cooperation with the National Association of Local Ombudspersons and with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Serbia. The Project built capacities of the local ombudsman offices in Backa Topola, Vozdovac, Vracar, Pancevo and Subotica for improving protection of human rights through use of mediation, while the first Community Mediation Center in Serbia was established in the Municipality of Vozdovac. Today, as a result of this Project, citizens in five cities and municipalities involved in the Project can utilize free mediation services for peaceful resolution of conflicts in their local communities. One of the goals within this initiative is to share results and experiences with all municipalities in the country, through cooperation with the National Association of Local Ombudspersons and other interested parties.

The conference will include speakers from the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Local Ombudspersons from Backa Topola, Vozdovac, Vracar, Pancevo and Subotica, as well as members of Partners Serbia.

Please note that simultaneous interpretation will be provided at the event.
